Sioux Center residents and business owners are invited to reflect on proposed streetscape concepts for the Highway 75 corridor and share feedback through a survey. More than 200 people were able to attend an Oct. 29 community open house for the Highway 75 redesign and shared feedback there, but the survey extends the opportunity to share feedback to those unable to attend as well.
People can view the Draft Concepts shared at the open house online at www.siouxcenter.org/75concepts.
After reviewing these concepts, people can complete the survey at www.siouxcenter.org/75survey.
The survey is also available in Spanish at www.siouxcenter.org/encuesta75.
Print copies of the survey will be available in English and Spanish at the City Office and the Sioux Center Public Library.
The survey will close on Nov. 10, and the feedback will be reviewed by the design team and the local streetscape steering committee.
Sioux Center is partnering with the Iowa DOT to redesign Highway 75 as an enhanced 4-lane roadway. This features two lanes of travel in each direction with medians and a center turn lane. Safety is central to the design, from high-visibility pedestrian crossings to eliminating left turns at some intersections to decrease traffic conflict points. Elements like landscaping, pedestrian-scale lighting, tree plantings, sidewalk bump-outs, and colored accent pavement are part of streetscape concepts to help create a Sioux Center feel along the 2.5-mile project.
The project is in the preliminary design stage with construction planned in 2023-24 and completion in 2025. The existing roadway is aging and deteriorating, and the new overall design is planned to serve Sioux Center for the next 40-50 years.
“This is an opportunity to make a difference for Sioux Center and get it right,” said Mayor David Krahling.
