Sioux Center’s new Community Development Director is bringing fresh perspective and excitement to build connections to promote community growth.
Lucas Heiberger begins in the new role January 2 and will oversee a comprehensive community development program that includes residential, retail, commercial and industrial development.
His work will include everything from recruiting commercial and industrial development opportunities and facilitating local companies’ growth to creating housing strategies. Heiberger will also help market and promote the various development opportunities. He’s interested in working toward more affordable housing options and building an inviting atmosphere to attract young adults to Sioux Center.
“Sioux Center has many great opportunities for growth,” said City Manager Scott Wynja. “Lucas will bring another level of excitement and enthusiasm and work closely with Dennis Dokter and myself to help these opportunities flourish.”
Heiberger said he is thrilled about the opportunity and the people he will be working alongside.
“I’m excited to get in front of people and tell them what makes Sioux Center a great place to be,” he said. “Sioux Center has such a cool balance – it still feels like a small town but it’s growing exponentially. Agriculture is strong here, and we have the university and big industries firing on all cylinders. It’s the best of both worlds.”
A Lyons, S.D. native, Heiberger most recently served as Director Of Student Programs and First-Year Experience at Northwestern College, in Orange City. He has also worked in marketing and events strategy and admissions counseling there. He graduated from Northwestern with a communications degree.
In his free time, Heiberger enjoys camping, hiking, biking, skiing, sand volleyball, golf, disc golf, piano, board/card games, trivia (especially movie trivia), working on wood projects, and cheering for the 49ers.
