Two Officers Sworn in with Sioux Center Police

City News Posted on July 16, 2024

The Sioux Center Police Department is welcoming Lance Hulstein and David Walker as new officers.

Hulstein and Walker were sworn in Monday at the City Council meeting.

"We're very honored to have both David and Lance in the police department, and there is no doubt in my mind both of these guys will do a phenomenal job for the City of Sioux Center," said Police Chief Josh Koedam.

Officer Lance Hulstein

Hulstein, a Sioux County native, is appreciating the opportunity to contribute to the community as a police officer.

“I’m excited to do work that serves a purpose like this,” Hulstein said. “It’s a good opportunity to meet a lot of people. This community is awesome – a clean, friendly town and the people are down to earth.”

Police Chief Josh Koedam said Hulstein has already shown a passion for pursuing law enforcement this past year, riding along with Sioux Center officers to get a feel for the work.

“It's exciting to have him join the department and begin serving the community in his new role,” Koedam said. “I look forward to witnessing Lance grow into his position as a Sioux Center Police Officer.”

Prior to joining the Sioux Center Police Department, Hulstein owned his own business, pouring concrete. He had worked in the field since he was 16, becoming a foreman at age 18.

Hulstein and his wife, Kayla, and their two children currently live in Sheldon with plans to move to Sioux Center in the near future. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, shooting, hunting, and fishing.

Officer David Walker

Walker, a native of Osceola, Iowa, moved to northwest Iowa in 2021 and is excited to be serving Sioux Center in this role.

“Sioux Center is a growing community that has a small-town feel,” Walker said. “As an officer, I want to help keep it a safe place and continue to build good connections – to be a person that cares and wants to be part of making the community better.”

Walker said growing up in a family familiar with military and law enforcement service has helped prepare him for this role. Currently, his father is a police officer and his mother works in county dispatch.

Police Chief Josh Koedam said Walker has already been a great addition to the police department.

“Coming from a law enforcement/military family, David is no stranger to the career, and I'm honored that he chose our community to be an officer,” Koedam said. “I trust he'll serve the community well.”

Walker lives in Hospers with his wife, Charity, and two children. In his free time he enjoys golf, slow-pitch softball, anything outdoors, music, video games, and spending time with family.
