The City of Sioux Center’s Finance Director has been named to a state leadership committee. Darryl Ten Pas was appointed by Governor Kim Reynolds to Iowa’s City Finance Committee.
The City Finance Committee establishes guidelines for city budgeting and accounting, reviews, and comments on city budgets to city officials to improve upon and use sound financial procedures. It also conducts studies of municipal revenues and expenditures and advises and makes recommendations annually to the Governor and the General Assembly concerning city budgets and finance.
The committee, made up of seven appointed members from across the state, meets once each year to review financial procedures and make recommendations.
“We help with the recommended structure for accounting for all cities in Iowa,” Ten Pas said. “It’s interesting to try to make things flow better.”
Ten Pas has served as Sioux Center’s Finance Director for 11 years. His term on the City Finance Committee is four years, with the opportunity to serve for a second term. In his free time, Ten Pas enjoys helping develop and promote recreation trails in Sioux Center, walking and biking, and spending time with his wife, Karen, and their two children, who are in college and graduate school.
