Sioux Center's Summer Celebration Packed with Fun June 6-8

A variety of fun, free, family-friendly events are scheduled for 2019 Summer Celebration, hosted by the Sioux Center Chamber of Commerce and the City of Sioux Center June 6-8! Here's the online schedule.

The weekend festivities begin on Thursday evening with the free Community Cook-Out in Central Park hosted by the Chamber Ag Committee. Entertainment in the bandshell will be provided by the HOME Building Praise Team. The Into the Woods musical will be held at Te Paske Theatre, at Sioux Center High School at 6:30 p.m. and several other times throughout the weekend. Tickets for the musical are available online at siouxcenterarts.ticketleap.com/intothewoods.

A new addition this year is the 9/11 Never Forget Memorial in the Centre Mall parking lot. This memorial provides interactive education; including artifacts such as steel beams from the towers, documentary videos, and recordings of first responder radio transmissions. Interactive guided tours are carried out by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts of the day and its aftermath.

Friday’s activities include Kiwanis Golf Tournament, Cruise Night, food vendors and an outdoor street dance featuring Black Hills-based rock band, Judd Hoos, along with local favorite, The Ruralists.

“The street dance was a huge attraction for all ages last year and we look forward to bringing that level of excitement back to our downtown again this year,” said Barb Den Herder, Executive Director of the Sioux Center Chamber.

Saturday will round out the activities with a full schedule of events including the WOW Bike Ride, a pancake breakfast, the 30th Annual Show and Shine Car Show, food vendors, many different children’s activities filling Central Park, including Pony Rides, fairy tale characters, inflatables, and train rides. The much-anticipated Summer Celebration Parade is at 5 p.m. with WW II veteran, Harold Vermeer and the American Legion Vice-Commander from the state of Iowa being honored as this year’s parade marshals. The weekend’s events conclude with a GLOW run and fireworks near the fairgrounds.
