Safety is the Focus of New Partnership

Safety will be in the spotlight as the City of Sioux Center begins a new safety-focused partnership.

Sioux Center city staff helped lead an effort to pool resources with eight other northwest Iowa communities to start the new partnership to help city and utility employees improve their safety practices.

“We take every employee’s safety seriously. This is part of doing exactly that,” said Sioux Center Utilities Manager Murray Hulstein. “We provide a diverse set of utilities and city services with a variety of safety training needs. We want to be as proactive as we can to help our employees keep a high standard of safety.”

The group will be overseen by the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, which recently hired a safety coordinator for this purpose.

Amanda Hickman, who began in that new position this week, will coordinate all safety programs and training, develop safety programs, and consult with the member communities on safety.

Hickman, who previously served as safety coordinator for Maguire Iron of Sioux Falls, will be relocating to northwest Iowa.

“We are looking forward to working with Amanda to enhance our safety culture,” Hulstein said.
