Groundbreaking Kicks Off Children's Park Improvements

Childrens Park Groundbreaking

A project that will improve the accessibility at Children's Park and add a new gathering space is officially underway.

Today Mayor Dennis Walstra, Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren, and Denny Van Zanten, plant manager at Sioux Center's Pella Corp broke ground for the Children's Park improvements which will include a paved parking area, more paved sidewalks/trails in the park, and a new, enclosed shelter house..

A grant of $50,000 from the Pella Rolscreen Foundation will help construct the shelter house. This grant was requested by Pella Corp. Operations in Sioux Center, working in conjunction with Van Meeteren.

The new shelter house is designed to offer a larger, up-to-date climate-controlled space for gatherings as well as arts and recreation classes at the park. Project plans include a paved parking area with connections to the shelter house and recreation trail, all designed to promote accessibility.

If construction follows the planned schedule, completion is slated for the spring of 2019.

The restrooms at Children's Park are now closed for construction.
