Vernon Park May Gain Green Space

Vernon Park

A park in southeast Sioux Center may be growing.

This week, the Sioux Center City Council asked staff to work toward finalizing plans with Sioux Center Health, which owns the property, to add to Vernon Park near Crown Pointe and Royale Meadows.

“We are interested in the growth of Vernon Park. As we see residential growth in that area, we understand the importance of supporting that growth with additional green space or park grounds,” Sioux Center Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren said.

Adding green space was identified as one of the community priorities in last year’s parks master planning process.

“Open space and parks are essential to Sioux Center’s quality of life,” City Manager Scott Wynja said. “Not only do they enrich residents’ lives, they also help to attract new residents and businesses because they positively impact our community’s character, real estate values, and the way we develop land.”

Sioux Center’s park system includes 11 different parks throughout the community and 7 miles of recreational trail.
