Work is underway to enhance a favorite Sioux Center spot for summer fun.
The construction crew is digging into the area where Sioux Center’s new outdoor aquatic features will be added, including a lazy river, a variety of water slides, and more.
Excavation is nearly complete on the deep pool, which will ultimately have 6,320 square feet of surface water and features such as diving boards, a mini aqua zip line, and a climbing wall.
Crews are also installing pipes and preparing the location for the filter/concession building.
The enhanced aquatic center is being built near the existing outdoor pool at the All Seasons Center. Plans call for it to be ready for summer fun in 2019.
Swimmers are still enjoying the existing outdoor pool, which is open as normal this summer while work on the new features continues.
City Manager Scott Wynja said it is exciting to see the progress on the project, which is being paid for with existing fund sources – Tax Increment Financing, Local Option Sales Tax, and cash reserves – not asking more from property taxes.
Wynja noted the outdoor aquatic center project is not just about adding summer fun.
“This project is also about enhancing the quality of life Sioux Center offers,” Wynja said. “We want to draw new businesses and industry. We want to encourage people to move here and invest here. We want to make this a place our children come back to. They are looking for high quality of life, and when they find what they are looking for here, we all see the benefits.”
