Are your sidewalks aging, cracking or uneven? The City of Sioux Center is offering a larger reimbursement for property owners wanting to replace sidewalks.
The Sioux Center City Council approved increasing the rebate for replacing sidewalks in the public sidewalk system to $2.50 per square foot.
“Sidewalks are an important part of our community, and we hope to encourage more property owners to properly maintain our sidewalk system by increasing the reimbursement amount,” said Josh Dorhout, who manages the Sidewalk Enhancement Program for the city.
He explained the rebate increase will help counter the rising costs of sidewalk removal and installation.
The rebate is for both residential and commercial property owners wishing to replace poor sidewalks or extend existing sidewalks as part of the public sidewalk system.
“We want to help keep pedestrians safely on sidewalks and off streets, especially those walking to school and to the downtown area,” Dorhout said. “Replacing sidewalks also adds to the appearance of people’s property. We’re interested in keeping our sidewalks safe and up to date. It’s a nice benefit for everybody.”
Dorhout said people interested in more information or who have specific questions about the Sidewalk Replacement Program can contact him at 722-0761 or visit www.siouxcenter.org/sidewalks.
