NAIA softball teams from across the nation will be playing national tournament games in Sioux Center May 13-16.
Sioux Center’s Open Space Park softball diamond was selected as one of 10 host sites across the country for the 2024 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round.
Northwestern College is the host and worked with Sioux Center Parks staff to apply for this site selection. Between 4-5 of the 48 National Championship teams will be playing the double-elimination bracket in Sioux Center for the Opening Round. The winner from each Opening Round site will advance to the NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Georgia, beginning May 23.
“It’s an honor to partner with Northwestern College to use Open Space Park as a host site. We’re excited to extend the hospitality of northwest Iowa and showcase the quality of facilities that we have here,” Sioux Center Parks Director Lee Van Meeteren said. “We are looking forward to the teams coming from across the nation to visit Sioux Center.”
Open Space Park and the softball diamond are joint facilities of the City of Sioux Center, Dordt University, and Sioux Center schools.
NAIA Tournament sites were selected in part by the NAIA Softball National Championship Selection Committee, taking into account geography, facilities, and other factors. Other 2024 host sites are in Missouri, Kentucky, Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Mississippi.
