New crossing arms and improved safety lighting are planned for the railroad crossing on 9th Street SW.
This week the Sioux Center City Council approved the Iowa Department of Transportation’s plan for adding new safety features at that crossing as proposed by the BNSF Railroad.
According to the plan, the safety features will be paid for 90 percent by the Iowa DOT and 10 percent by the BNSF railroad.
“We have applied for added safety features at this crossing before, and we are pleased BNSF’s request to install and help pay for the improvements has been approved,” said Sioux Center Utility Engineer Matt Van Schouwen.
According to plans from the Iowa DOT, the new crossing arms and lights may be installed at the 9th St. SW railroad crossing in the coming year.
